Comms
How to sound like a Pro over SRS.
Basics
- Be sure to review the Brevity Kneeboard
- Don't forget to install Simple Radio Standalone
Callsigns
- Simple number system assigned to each pilot or airframe.
- Ex: "Wreck 1-1, Wreck 4-2, Wreck 7-9"
- This allows everyone to instantly know who is talking to who.
- "Wreck 1-1 for Wreck 7-2"
- "Go for Wreck 7-2"
- This allows everyone to instantly know who is talking to who.
- This also allows everyone not involved in the conversation to ignore it.
- Ex: "Wreck 1-1, Wreck 4-2, Wreck 7-9"
Be Direct
- Being on a hot mic during combat is not the time to be searching for what to say.
- Convey what you want to the other party to hear and then clear the channel.
- Ex. "Wreck 2-1 go defensive, AAA"
- Convey what you want to the other party to hear and then clear the channel.
Channels
- Most flights will have a main channel and then several sub-channels.
- Examples:
- Ch. 250 for airport/main communication
- Ch. 251 for CAP
- Ch. 252 for CAS
- Ch. 124 for Helicopters
- All mission briefings should contain a list of channels for each flight.
- SOP for F/A-18 flights is to make make use of MIDS for interflight and wingman comms
- Examples:
STFU
- It is paramount to keep the main channel clear of non-essential chatter.
- Always change to your flight's channel for non-essential communications.
- BS about the weather or your new HOTAS doesn't need to be over the entire net.
Encryption
Our SOP is to utilize the KY-58, KY-28, and other encrypted comms systems that work via SRS integration
- This is useful in PvP scenarios as well as on public servers
- Encrypted transmissions will begin with a sharp ‘bleep' sound
- At mission start, coordinate fill channels with your flight
